2016: Debut with Square One and
Square Two.

With the preparations for the promotion starting in August 2016 with the release of the footage and participation in songs and advertisements, YG Entertainment revealed the name and final member of the group on June 29, 2016.

Black Pink became the first female singer group to debut under YG Entertainment in six years after 2NE1, with their debut single titled Square One, which was released on August 8, 2016. The second single, "Whistle," was produced by Teddy Park and Future Bounce and written by Teddy Park, Kim Hanbin from the iKon band, and Bekuh BOOM. The debut single, "Boombayah," was produced by Teddy Park and co-authored by Bekuh BOOM. Its music video was directed by Seo Hyun-seung.

These two songs are number one and two on the Billboard World Digital Songs charts, and Black Pink is the fastest artist to do so and the third Korean artist who holds these two positions after fellow artists Psy and Big Bang. "Whistle" topped the digital, upload, streaming and mobile charts on Gaon in August 2016. They also ranked number one on the weekly charts, popularity, music videos, and K-pop music videos on the biggest music streaming site in China , QQ Music.
